Jump Your Hurdle!

As a Life Coach and Pastor, I often find that people generally have the same obstacles appear time and time again in the pursuit of their purpose. Some of the main culprits are fear, discouragement, and lack of confidence. Seldom is it something that actually keeps you from fulfilling your dreams, but rather a mental hurdle that hinders you from believing that it is possible.

Even if your obstacle is something tangible, you will have a hard time overcoming it if you don’t believe in your heart and mind that you have what it takes to conquer it. I was speaking with a guy the other day, and he admitted that his obstacle is believing that he doesn’t deserve anything better than what he already has. He believes this because he has never had anything better. My advice to him was that his belief was the only thing keeping him from getting more out of his life.

I know you’re thinking, “it all sounds good, but how do you do it?” “How can I finally gain the courage, confidence, and faith to actually jump my hurdle?”

Here are 4 things you can do to make the leap:

Change your environment. When you see the same situations over and over again, it can cause you to lose heart and believe that you will always get the same results even from different actions. So you fail to act. When you change your environment, it can allow you to see your situation from a new perspective, giving you the motivation to move forward.
Change your associations. Sometimes, we are around people who extinguish the fire we have for pursuing our purpose. And regardless of how strong you are, they can have an affect on you and your motivation to succeed. Instead, you should find people who have overcome obstacles in their life and know that nothing is impossible. Not only can they give you advice on how to overcome your own obstacles, but they can give you the encouragement you need to jump.
Change your inputs. Confidence is one of the strongest motivators for achieving success. When you are confident in your subject, your abilities, and your goal, you are destined to win. What hinders that confidence in your life is getting input from sources that don’t add value, or even worse, detract value. In other words, turn off the television and pick up a book that will help you scale that hurdle. Feed your mind with inputs that build you up, not tear you down. Be aware of what goes into your body, mind, and spirit…and keep the junk out, so you will be fit to defeat the barriers that come against you.
Change your attitude. Dr. Wayne Dyer once quoted, “change the way you look at things, and the things you look at will change.” No truer words have been spoken. If you’ll take a good look at the attitude with which you approach the barriers in your life, you’ll see that there’s always room for adjustment. The next time a challenge arises in your life, make the decision that you will overcome it no matter how difficult it may be. Knowing that you can and will make it through will often result in it not being such a difficult obstacle after all.

Regardless of the opposition you’re facing, if you’ll make these changes in your life, you will be sure to gain the strength you need to make it through and accomplish your dreams. So keep running, keep fighting, keep training, and keep pursuing your purpose with everything you’ve got, and JUMP THAT HURDLE!
